Competitive Swimming

EDSC offers competitive swimming opportunities for a range of ages and ability. EDSC’s Competitive setup comprises of 7 training squads, plus a further 2 covering the Seniors and Masters. From Academy Squad (average age of 7), through to National Squad (average age 15), competitive swimming at EDSC is for the dedicated and committed swimmer who wishes to take their sport to the next level.

The amount of commitment required from the swimmer, parents and coach should not be under-estimated. Attendance at a minimum number of sessions per week is required as per the relevant Squad Criteria, with our youngest competitors attending 1 training session per week, through to our more experienced, top competitive swimmers training up to 7 sessions per week. Subscriptions cover the cost of pool hire and coaching.

With over 150 competitive swimmers, EDSC recognise a range in talent and offer a broad spectrum of competition throughout the swimming season to accommodate each and every swimmer that is included in our competitive swimming programme. This includes:

  • free internal competitions hosted, organised and specifically for EDSC competitors only such as Time Trials and Club Championships;
  • licensed open meets, including both EDSC’s and locally hosted meets that provide for a mix of distances as well as catering for both County and non-County standard swimmers – for more information on open meets visit HERE;
  • league team galas, such as the National Arena, White Horse, Tudor and Kent Junior;
  • County, Regional, National and International competition.

For every competitive swim recorded, times will be added to the Club’s database of swim times, which can be used to refer to when entering open meets as well as tracking progress via SwimClub Manager including the dedicated app. Times achieved at licensed open meets can be used to enter County and Regional events. These times are also kept on our database as well as British Swimming’s Rankings database. Swimmers can use this to review where they are ranked for their age group across the county, the region or the nation.

Coaching at EDSC is led by Damian Edmonds with Paul Graimes as our Development Coach. Sue Wilding, Sam Grover and Kate Timmins are our squad coaches. EDSC is also lucky to have a dedicated team of other teachers and coaches that assist in providing necessary support on pool side.
