EDSC is 100 years old!

2012 is the Club’s centenary so it’s never been a better time to be involved with one of the South East’s largest swimming clubs.  Check out the Club’s Centenary page and in particular EDSC TV for a page full of video highlights from numerous Club events that have been caught on camera since 1990.  A further page of slideshows is currently under construction.

We’d love as many members as possible to be involved in the many special Centenary events we have planned.  Therefore, please note the following social dates in your diary and watch this space for further information:

- Friday 25th to Monday 28th May 2012: Germany 2012
- Friday 22nd June (NOTE DATE CHANGE): Race Night @ Erith Veterans Club, Park Crescent

Have you been spotted? - May’s nominations now online

The squad coaches have just introduced a monthly recognition scheme called ‘SPOTTED.’  Under the right hand column on the Squads page each squad will feature a few words about a swimmer or swimmers that have worked hard, improved, competed for the first time, done something swimming related outside the club, etc.  The winners will each receive a certificate.  Check the Squads page to see if you’ve been spotted this month!

SWIM21

We have just received confirmation that the Club has successfully revalidated its Swim21 Accreditation for swimming at teaching and master foundation levels for another year.  Well done to all involved.  For more info on what this means for the Club CLICK HERE.

Team Stats, Club Records and Age Group Records

Click the EDSC logo to the top left.  Every current swimmer that has recorded times with the Club is included.  Swimmers can monitor their progress using graphs, print off their top times and browse results from any gala as of this season.  The latest Club Records and Age Group Records are also included, as are the Time Trials Standards (SCM = Short Couse Metres).

The Age Group Records are where records stand for each stroke and distance for every age group: 8 - 18yrs, and you have to be the relative age at the year end to break the relevant record. The second type are simply called the Club Records. These are the overall fastest times for every stroke/distance regardless of age so as to show the absolute fastest swimmer that EDSC has produced.

The recent change to the Club Records is to make them more prestigious as an achievement, and a real goal to swimmers at the top end. All Club Record breakers get a free personalised EDSC towel - if you think you may have broken one or an Age Group Record please let your coach know.

Germany 2012

Good luck to the 36 swimmers taking part in this years International Swimmfest in Neheim-Husten, Bexley’s twin-town. For a list of entries check the Entries link via Team Stats, or for a PDF CLICK HERE.

NOT RECEIVING REGULAR CLUB UPDATES VIA E-MAIL?

It could be that we do not have your correct e-mail on our database.  All parents of swimmers (and swimmers above 16) are entitled to register for the Club’s free e-mailing service, which is often the first place to find up-to-date news of events.  Register now by sending your details to info@edsc.org.uk or speak to John Burdett on Tuesday or Thursday at the pool.

NEXT SOCIAL EVENT: EDSC Race Night - 7.30pm - Friday 22nd June, Erith Veterans Club

Race Night FlyerThank you to everyone that contributed to the EDSC Centenary BBQ. The weather was kind and so were you after selling more raffle tickets than ever before. The total money raised was around £2,500.  Congratulations to our winners. We hope you all had a great time. Many thanks to all who helped run the day including John Burdett, Tracey Hayes, Tim and Luch Wilkes, Clare Ross, Tom Gordon, Lisa Zurita, Joy Dodson, Ruth and Vern Bassett, Sandra Hughes, Denise Pink, Jason Middleton and everyone else that helped out in the some way or another!

Our next fundraiser is a race night on Friday 22nd June. This will feature 8 horse races over the course of the evening shown via a projector. All you have to do is bet on the horses! As per the last race night and quiz night, the EDSC bar will be open for business, but please bring your own snacks. Entrance tickets are now available at just £2 each from John Burdett or Tracey Hayes in the pool foyer on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in the run up to the event.
