ROCKHOPPER PENGUINS (30 mins) |
Children may join the EDSC Penguin Learn to Swim programme from the age of 5, as soon as a place becomes available, following their 5th birthday. Classes start in the shallow teaching pool on a Tuesday or Thursday evening, progressing to the large pool on a Sunday. The criteria and requirements of the classes are based upon the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) plan along with preparing members for competition. Each class is named after a type of Penguin: Rockhopper Penguins, Royal Penguins, King Penguins and Emperor Penguins. The Academy Prep class was introduced in January 2013 and provides a transition between the Learn To Swim Programme and Competitive swimming. Members of this class must be able to swim 25m lengths without stopping and have basic knowledge of all four competitive strokes. There is currently a waiting list. If you would like your child to be included on the list, please e-mail address to learn2swim@edsc.org.uk. Please include the child’s name, address, landline phone number and their date of birth, a brief description of their current ability, e.g. beginner, 5m, 10m etc. If you think you are already on the waiting list, please e-mail your current details so we can keep the waiting list up to date. You will be contacted as soon as a place becomes available. Swimmers will be offered places in classes following assessment to ensure members are placed in the correct class for their ability.
