Children may join the EDSC Penguin Learn to Swim programme from the age of 5, as soon as a place becomes available, following their 5th birthday.

Classes start in the shallow teaching pool on a Tuesday or Thursday evening, progressing to the large pool on a Sunday.

The criteria and requirements of the classes are based upon the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) plan along with preparing members for competition.

Each class is named after a type of Penguin: Rockhopper Penguins, Royal Penguins, King Penguins and Emperor Penguins.

There is currently a waiting list.  If you would like your child to be included on the list, please e-mail address to learn2swim@edsc.org.uk. Please include the child’s name, address, landline phone number and their date of birth, a brief description of their current ability, e.g. beginner, 5m, 10m etc.

Swimmers will be offered places in classes following assessment to ensure members are placed in the correct class for their ability.

If you think you are already on the waiting list, please e-mail your current details so we can keep the waiting list up to date. You will be contacted as soon as a place becomes available.

Harry Bullbrook
Always polite, Harry has taken his own initiative to work with his coach to improve his Freestyle pull, purchasing his own set of hand paddles and learning specific drills to do so. This is a rare quality in a swimmer and is sure to serve him well in the future - in fact it's already starting to, having pb'd in his last 50m Freestyle race at Tudor League.

William Theobald and Kavan Zurita
Following my joint nomination for spotted last month, I’m doing likewise this month! Since joining the squad in the New Year they have quickly established themselves as 2 of the most dedicated swimmers in the squad. Always competing against each other (including during training!) they are a pleasure to coach and between them they have taken over 30 seconds off their 100m FC time in 15 months.  Hard work pays off!

Steven O'Neill

ELITE YOUTH (6.5 hrs swimming) - Steven O’Neill
Sunday: 1.45 to 4.00pm

Sarah-Louise Shattock-Gomez
Sarah is one of the hardest workers in the club and is always striving to make herself a better swimmer. This great attitude has seen her pb in her most recent Freestyle swim as well as win the race! Sarah always says 'thankyou' at the end of each session which is refreshing and even asked me last week "is my training ok?" to which I answered most definately "yes!"

The Synchro section made a strong start to 2011 at the recent Middlesex County Competition. We entered most sections of the competition, figures, solos, duets and team combi routine. It was an excellent day we came away with 7 podium finishes, an outstanding result. Well done to everyone who took part & worked so hard in the weeks leading up to the competition. This is a sign of great things to come in the next year...

SATURDAY MORNINGS from 7.30 to 8.30am is an open session for all those who swim in Junior Squad and above.  Please note there is no coach on the side for this session.
