Many members of E.D.S.C. are active Open Water swimmers. We train and compete throughout the Open Water season that starts in May and runs through to the end of September. We can be found most weekends training in organised sessions in Dover Harbour. Sessions are on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10am but you must be there for the safety briefing at 9.30am. Throughout the competition season we compete in many Open Water competitions including the Dover Regatta, the Brighton 1km Pier to Pier swim, the Eastbourne 2 and 5km. All Open Water races are organised well and safety is always the number one priority. We will make entry forms for these competitions available on this page as soon as they come available. PLEASE SEND ANY COMPLETED ENTRY FORMS WITH PAYMENT DIRECT TO THE ORGANISERS. Whilst exhilarating, Open Water swimming is certainly not something for the faint hearted. With water temperatures starting at around 10°C in early Summer rising to around 18°C at its peak you need to be a strong swimmer with an ability to cope with cold temperatures to take part. We welcome anyone who wants to join us so if you fancy trying something a little different then please speak to John Burdett or Jenny Vick at anytime and we will tell you more about what’s involved. |
