general club information

why join edsc?
EDSC is a fun, family run swimming club based in Erith, South East London. We were established in 1912 and are therefore one of the oldest swimming clubs in the area. As you will see on this page the Club caters for swimmers of all ages. If not already in the teaching groups, possible new members are expected to complete a trial. Please download our general information leaflet HERE. If you are thinking of joining please contact John Burdett on 07788 668514, or e-mail john@edsc.org.uk

training times
The club operates a squad system whilst also offering a learn to swim programme with many teaching classes. Effectively, swimmers are expected to swim up through the squads as they improve.

As from Tuesday 5th February 2008 a revised weekly timetable of training times was introduced. Please download this timetable HERE.

squads and coaches
The club Squad system is for strong swimmers from 8 years of age and has been operating successfully for a number of years, during which time we are proud to have produced a large number of County and District Champions. We currently operate with 4 squads as detailed below:

Louise HB1RED SQUAD... Is a feeder squad for Top Squad, offering swimmers the chance to train on 6 days per week. Again regular attendance is necessary (minimum 2 sessions per week) and swimmers are encouraged to compete regularly. Coached by Louise Hoyne-Butler.

Paul NichollsJUNIOR SQUAD... Follows the principles of Top Squad, offering up to 6 sessions per week, with an expected minimum attendance of 3 sessions. Again, regular competition is encouraged. Coached by Paul Nicholls, with assistance from Mark Russell and Dave Kane.

Julie_CraggsWHITE SQUAD... Is the initial squad for younger swimmers from our Teaching Programme. It is dedicated to improving stroke technique, stamina & racecraft amongst its young members. Coached by Mick Thackray, Buck Ryan and Julie Craggs.

history of edsc

edsc recently sent out thousands of leaflets via the News Shopper and to its Members to distribute. The results are great news for the Club, as we have taken on almost 20 new members in the past few weeks, with over 80 on the waiting list for our Learn to Swim programme. Thank you to all for their efforts on this! The leaflet is attached HERE in PDF format to download and print.
